Spark + Dreams

Our first innovation 3D model in the “New Materials” page is dedicated to Japanese Architecture. Its name is “Metal Japanese House” and is made of metal, specifically, oxidized brass (the “Japanese House” model is also produced in cork, see “New Materials/Cork Japanese House” page). This model was designed, and 3D printed by 3D+Dreams, following its production by a Foundry Craftsman, connecting New Technologies with the Millenar Art of Foundry. Inspired by the Traditional Japanese House this 3D model is based on the minimal Japanese Architecture lines, with its detailed wooden structure specially prepared for the seismic characteristics in Japan. The complex system of structural wooden beams, in the roof of some Traditional Japanese Houses are most interesting, and its crafts can only be designed and built by the few rare Japanese masters, who have this knowledge, passing from generation to generation.

On a first approach, the Japanese House was first sketched to find the main features that would best characterize the Traditional Japanese Architecture, in the countryside. On a second stage, it was 3D modelled by using specific parametric 3D design software, which include Fusion and AutoCAD, among others, and 3D printed on a Formlabs 3D Printer producing a 3D resin piece. On a third stage, it was handed over to a blacksmith, who transformed it into an oxidized brass 3D model.

It’s important to emphasize that this 3D model is on a research stage, meaning that we are currently developing and improving its production, and for this reason it’s not yet for sale. This first model has several purposes, among which to demonstrate that we are committed to be constantly working for Innovation and this is just the first “step”, it’s just the beginning!
