The “Cloister” Pendant celebrates Love and Meditation brilliantly described by Henry Van Dyke, an American writer and teacher, in his poem: “Time is too slow for those who wait, / too swift for those who fear, / too long for those who grieve, / too short for those who rejoice, / but for those who love, time is eternity.”
The “Cloister” Pendant was inspired by the shapes in the Jerónimos Cloister, once a space of meditation, and one of the most emblematic Monuments of the Portuguese Maritime Expansion – as it reflects the spirit of the Gothic and Manueline architectural styles, in the 16th century. The Cloister is an open gallery inside the Jerónimos Monastery, a space where the monks would stand praying and meditating in enclosure, for a long period of time.

The “Cloister” Pendant was inspired by the Jerónimos Cloister, in Lisbon, with its magnificent space of meditation oriented to the inside of the Jerónimos Monastery. The Gothic and Manueline architectural styles, characterize this unique space, and this pendant aims to reflect its spirit. The natural light inside the Jerónimos Cloister and the beautiful ornaments, specifically, the decorations with the “polylobulated” perfect round arc, on the 1st level, meaning the arc with the small circles inside, which were truly inspiring and are drawn on this pendant. The Gothic architectural style is represented by an authentic stone filigree work, which is most impressive and was the “engine” that inspired this pendant.
On a first stage, its design was produced with a sketch inspired by the beautiful architectural details in the Church of Santa Maria de Belém, in Jerónimos Monastery. A second stage followed using a specific parametric 3D design software – Fusion and AutoCAD – that was applied together with the 3D Printing Technology on a Formlabs 3D Printer producing a castable wax resin piece. On a third stage, this resin piece was handed over to the work of a certified traditional goldsmith that transformed it into a precious silver Jewel. These three steps were carefully executed and monitored with a special attention to every detail, so that the result would be a unique Jewel with a special meaning and top quality.
The Jerónimos Cloister space is directly connected to the Introspection and Meditation mind sets, which were fundamental for the Monks living there, in the 16th century, and this meditation spirit truly inspires us. In the Middle Ages, the symbolic meaning of the Cloister was related to the centre of the World, as the centre of the Cosmos, with an open arcade that oversees a garden inside, symbolizing the “Garden of Eden”. In the centre of the “Cloister” Pendant there is a heart, representing our message: that Love is at the centre of the World.
